Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Myeongdong by Marriott International Review

Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Myeongdong by Marriott International Review 1

If you are planning a trip to Seoul then you are likely already very familiar with Myeongdong. It is one of the best shopping areas in Seoul and it’s also one of the most popular neighbourhoods. Perhaps most importantly, however, is that it is located in the centre of northern Seoul, making it ideal for anyone looking for a location that is central to a range of the capital’s biggest attractions.

While it’s easy to decide to stay in Myeongdong, deciding where exactly to stay in Myeongdong can be difficult. There are hundreds of accommodation options ranging greatly in both price and quality. Today, I want to introduce an option that anyone looking for the best accommodation in Seoul will be interested in – The Four Points by Sheraton Josun Seoul, Myeongdong.

Recently I had the pleasure of staying at the Four Points by Sheraton Josun Seoul, Myeongdong with my girlfriend. Even after staying at a wide range of hotels in Seoul, this was by far one of the best experiences that we have had – both the hotel and service were great. Let me explain why!

I do want to quickly mention that this article is written from my honest thoughts and feelings on the stay. It is an overwhelmingly positive review, but that is because we had a great time. Besides the price (which is definitely on the higher-end), we had only minor complains during our stay. This article was not pre-read or edited to be positive – we just had a great stay.

When I first saw the name of the hotel I was intrigued. Although I am not the biggest fan of Myeongdong (it’s usually too busy for my liking), there’s no denying that it is a great place for tourists to stay. Just the fact that it is so central makes it instantly appealing. Add to that the fact that the area has tons of attractions and shopping and the location becomes irresistible – provided you don’t mind crowds.

Perhaps slightly misleadingly, Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Myeongdong is actually located just outside exit 12 of Euljiro 3-ga Station. While not exactly Myeongdong, getting to the shopping Mecca will take only about 10 minutes. Honestly, the location is probably better.

While the hotel is very tall, even the highest rooms can hear the louder traffic sounds from below. Trust me, Myeongdong has a lot of traffic that is best not heard. On top of this, the Four Points by Sheraton in Myeongdong is located almost directly outside the subway station – It’s less than 30 seconds away from the subway exit. This makes it super convenient for any travellers looking to easily drop off luggage.

While I did enjoy the location a lot, make sure not to accidentally go to Myeongdong Station at first as I did! Despite the name, this hotel is not located in Myeongdong and is rather located a short walk away.

The location of the hotel puts it within 30 minutes walking of the Namsan Tower cable car and Namdaemun Market. Gyeongbokgung Palace and Dongdaemun are also within walking distance, however, taking a bus or the subway is definitely more convenient. I will discuss the local attractions in more detail later in this article!

There is also a variety of restaurants and cafes within 10 minutes of the hotel. While far from everything on offer, we found a multitude of cafes and restaurants ranging from Korean to Vietnamese within just a few minutes walk of the hotel.

Room type: Deluxe Guest Room with City View

While the location is a big appeal of the hotel, let’s move on to the main attraction. That is, of course, the room. This was what drew me to book a room at Four Points by Sheraton Josun in the first place. There are a ton of hotels in Seoul, but the pictures that I saw online for the hotel rooms made me particularly interested in this hotel.

For this reason, I was very excited to see and experience the room – especially after seeing the stunning Pictures that are on both Marriott’s official website and other third-party hotel booking websites.

We stayed in a deluxe king room on the 25th floor (there are 26 floors total). The lady at check-in was kind enough to put us on the top floor offering deluxe rooms without me asking (and I was planning to!). From the pictures, we were anticipating an open room with a stunning view and we were not at all disappointed.

Our anticipation gradually built up as we waited for the elevators… Which do take a while since there are only 3 and the building is quite massive. However, this was a very minor issue and perhaps even good for us – the anticipation built up the moment even more.

When we first entered the room we instantly knew we’d made the right choice. While the pictures we saw online were very similar to reality, they didn’t quite do it justice. All too often, photos of hotel rooms show off a room that is, in reality, far smaller. This wasn’t the case here, however.

On the contrary, the large windows give the room a feeling of being much larger than it actually is. Despite still being relatively small, the room feels open and free. On top of this, the windows embrace both the weather and the atmosphere that it brings, making the room stunning in summer and on sunny days.

While you can draw the curtains at any time, we never felt the need to as the feeling of the room with the curtains open is so much better! If you’re staying in such a nice room you may as well embrace it. At least, that was our thought. We ended up leaving the curtains open most nights as the view below was breathtaking.

However, there may be times when you want privacy and even with a glass wall, this is possible as the curtains are very large and totally black out the sun while also providing total privacy to anyone in the room.

The room also has an interesting form factor, being in an L shape rather than a typical rectangle or square. While the bathroom and toilet area does technically create a rectangle, the actual living area feels more akin to an L shape.

When you first enter the room, there is a small lobby area. This area follows typical Korean fashion and is made from a harder floor that is intended for shoes. Once you don your slippers, you can pass through and turn to the right – this will show the exact view in the photo above.

Right next to the bed is a double door that can be closed. Behind the doors, you will find the bathroom area. This includes a shower room, toilet room, and a sink area in between the two. The bathroom being located so close to the bed could be a bit awkward, but we didn’t find this to be an issue.

Located right in the centre of the room is a decently sized table that has two chairs as well as a bench. The table also includes pop-up power sockets and USB ports in the centre, making it ideal for anything from working to eating. Just make sure that you are familiar with the Korean power socket and have an adapter if needed!

Interestingly, the TV is located in the centre of the room. It seems as though the room was designed with the belief that visitors would watch the TV from the table. However, I’m fairly certain I’m not alone in saying that I would prefer to watch it from bed!

While the TV can be rotated slightly, the angle is still far from perfect for bed-viewing. I wish that the TV could be pulled out a bit more so that it could rotate properly on its mount. However, the TV was fantastic (LG nano cell!) and makes for a great viewing experience if you want to watch movies or otherwise.

As you would expect with a hotel of this quality, there are a lot of facilities and amenities provided for guests. All of the basics that you would expect are covered – cleaning products (shampoo, body wash, and conditioner), toothbrushes, combs, toothpaste and more are all provided.

On top of this, there is also a small range of instant coffee and tea provided. These, along with the water bottles, are replaced daily by room service. However, only two bottles of water are provided daily and we found that this was less than we needed.

There is also a hairdryer, robes, and an iron and ironing board provided for anyone who needs them. Perhaps more interestingly is that every room contains a safe that can be set with a passcode. While I’m sure that the room service is very trustworthy, this is a nice addition and something that many people may feel safer using.

Particularly important in Korea’s summer is AC. Over the duration that we stayed the temperature was consistently over 36 degrees during the day. Luckily, the room is equipped with AC that blows into a range of different areas throughout the room allowing the area to stay cool.

There is no food included by default, however, room service is available for an additional cost. We tried a couple of dishes from room service and while the food was decent, it was not as good as what you could order from a delivery app for the same price.

Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Myeongdong by Marriott International Review 12

This point may seem a bit out of place – a hotel review should include a discussion about the room quality, amenities, and other important factors. However, here I am discussing the view? Well, I want to mention it because deluxe rooms at the Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Myeongdong have stunning views.

As a photographer, I am particularly passionate about good views. It may sound silly, but I was really excited to see what views the hotel had to offer. Thankfully, we were not disappointed as the hotel has great views on all sides.

While the view is nice, what feels almost magical is being able to sleep with the lights of the city below you. This is one of the tallest buildings in the area, and seeing the constant movement of Seoul’s nightlife below is wonderful – at least I thought so!

If you are looking for a room with the same view as the photos above, or at least a room with an equally enthralling view, make sure to book a room with ‘city view’ in the title. These rooms come in a range of different types and all offer unique views of the city below.

With all of that being said, it’s time to wrap up my review of Four Points by Sheraton Josun, Seoul Myeongdong. Would I recommend it? Well, as you can probably already tell, yes. We had a wonderful time and there was nothing that we wish was better besides a few minor things.

The deluxe room that we stayed in is a bit more pricey than some of the other options. However, there are also a lot of more affordable rooms in the hotel that also offer great quality and stunning city views. Even better, they all share the same fantastic location.

If you are looking for one of the best accommodation options in Seoul then make sure to check it out – there are few hotels that offer rooms of such quality at a comparably affordable price. Looking to plan a stay? You can do so here.
